Logos Bible Software: The Next Era

I want to take the opportunity to introduce you to the next generation of Logos Bible Software. Many of you know that I have been an avid user of Logos since nearly the beginning of the company in 1992. It has been an indispensable tool for study and sermon preparation, and in my estimation, it gets better with each generation.

I will admit that sometimes they make changes that at first seem uncomfortable. Sometimes, we get used to doing things in a particular way and then it takes a little while to adjust. For instance, when a menu location or style changes, it can take some time to grow accustomed to the new way of doing things. However, in most cases after an adjustment, it becomes second nature.

The Big News

Logos has changed to a subscription model. This means that you can try logos at a much lower price point. Previously, the purchase of the software with a small to medium library would cost hundreds of dollars or even more, but now you can get the base subscription, Logos Premium on a monthly basis of $9.99, or $99.99 for an annual subscription, which is the equivalent of getting 2 months free.

Until now, most users had to wait for 2 years until new features were introduced. Subscriptions allow for continuous feature upgrades, and it also allows feedback and evaluation on new features in a timelier manner. There was initially a concern about what would happen to our libraries and books, but we still own the books that we have purchased.

My Favorite New Features

Summarize

Have you ever started reading a book, only to decide after some time that it was not worth your time? The new summarize feature provides a synopsis that helps me determine whether or not a resource is worth reading in its entirety. When used in conjunction with the search feature, Logos provides an overview of a topic, or theological concept.

Factbook

The Factbook was introduced several versions ago, but recent enhancements include the ability to analyze a passage of Scripture, and see relevant commentaries, along with information on people, places, and things found in the text. It is an increasingly useful tool.

Bible Study Builder

For me, the Bible Study Builder is among the most exciting new features. With it, I can easily create a Bible study without any additional tools. I can enter a passage reference, and it will search my library to find questions pertaining to the subject. Additionally, I can add my own questions, or even generate more questions using AI. Weekly, my wife and I lead a sermon based small group, and I absolutely love this feature.

Other Features and Improvements

There is a Sermon Builder which includes Sermon Assistant which is helpful in generating outlines, illustrations, discussion questions, and application points based on your sermon. The auto translation feature allows me to translate a section of text from over 100 modern languages, plus Latin, and Biblical Hebrew. I like the ability to import my sermons into Logos because now the decades of messages and teachings are now searchable.

In Summary

If it sounds like I am a fan of the new version, it’s because I really am. Logos is the one application that is always open on my computer. The new version is easier to use, but there are depths and features yet to be explored. I may give you an update in the weeks and months to come.

If you want to explore it further, please use this link, and because I am a Logos Affiliate Partner, if you are a new subscriber, you can try the new Logos for 60 days, risk-free. With this offer you will have all of these Bible study tools, and up to 500 books. In the interest of full disclosure, as a Logos Partner, E4 Ministry Network receives a small commission. I hope that you will give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
